Ruth Shim

MD, MPH. Associate Dean, Diverse and Inclusive Education & Director of Cultural Psychiatry, University of California, Davis School of Medicine

Dr. Shim provides clinical psychiatric care at UC Davis Early Diagnosis and Preventative Treatment (EDAPT) Clinic.  She recently published “Social (In)Justice and Mental Health” which she co-authored with Dr. Sarah Y. Vinson.  She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the American Association for Community Psychiatry. She serves on the Editorial Boards of JAMA Psychiatry, Psychiatric Services, Community Mental Health Journal, and American Psychiatric Publishing.  She also serves on the Research and Evaluation Committee of the California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission. Dr. Shim’s is a leader in advancing health equity and her research focuses on the social determinants of mental health and race inequities. Dr. Shim received a Master of Public Health specializing in health policy from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and an MD from Emory University School of Medicine.
