Dr. Torous serves as staff psychiatrist and assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Torous co-designed and implemented the Digital Clinic, an already functioning clinic using smartphone apps to augment and extend care at the Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Mass. He has a background in electrical engineering and computer science and is active in investigating the potential of mobile mental health technologies for psychiatry. He has published over 200 peer reviewed articles and 5 books chapters on the topic. He serves as editor-in-chief for JMIR Mental Health (http://mental.jmir.org/), web editor for JAMA Psychiatry, and currently leads the American Psychiatric Association’s Health IT Committee. Dr. Torous received an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and earned his medical degree from the University of California at San Diego. He completed his psychiatry residency, fellowship in clinical informatics, and master’s degree in biomedical informatics at Harvard.
